When adjusting the due date of a repeating reminder, you have two primary options:
-
Postpone just this occurrence: Delay a single occurrence while keeping the original recurrence pattern intact.
-
Permanently modify the recurrence pattern: Change the recurrence pattern for all future occurrences.
Consider this example: You have a reminder set to repeat every 2 months on the 27th day at 5:30 PM:
If, for instance, you can't complete the task at 5:30 PM on October 27, you might choose to postpone it to October 28 at 5:30 PM. However, after completing this postponed reminder, you'd expect the next occurrence to adhere to the original pattern, occurring on December 27 at 5:30 PM.
When you're ready to save changes made to a repeating reminder with a modified due date, you'll encounter the following options:
Here's what each option does:
Always only this occurrence | Only this occurrence | All future occurrences |
Modify the due date and time for this occurrence to October 28, 5:30 pm.

Maintain the recurrence pattern on the 27th day every 2 months at 5:30 pm. |
Permanently modify the recurrence pattern such that all future occurrences of this reminder will take place on the 28th day every 2 months at 5:30 pm. |
|
The next occurrence will take place on December 27, 5:30 pm. |
The next occurrence will take place on December 28, 5:30 pm. |
|
Do not prompt again when modifying repeating reminders in future. Always preserve the recurrence pattern and modify just this occurrence. |
Prompt each time a repeating reminder is modified. |
Resetting your preference for ‘Always only this occurrence’
If you've chosen ‘Always only this occurrence’ but later want to be prompted every time you modify a repeating reminder, you can reset your preference in Due > Settings. Scroll to the bottom to find the button Restore Warnings & Prompts.
However, it's worth noting that recurrence patterns are typically stable and don't require frequent changes, so ‘Always only this occurrence’ may be the preferred choice.
If you ever need to permanently modify the recurrence pattern of a reminder, simply tap on the red exclamation mark located to the right of the due date. This mark appears when the due date no longer aligns with the reminder's recurrence pattern:
You'll then be presented with options to modify the recurrence pattern:
